Arrivals and Welcome!
Late Afternoon: Guests will be arriving on Islay. Montgomery distiller and guide, Kira Bassingthwaighte, will be waiting to greet everyone at the airport or ferry port. We will then make our way to the Harbour Inn for check-in.
5:30pm: Once everyone is settled, we will have a "Whisky & Welcome" briefing in the cafe! At this time we will enjoy a bottle of Islay Scotch together while introducing ourselves, discussing the week ahead, and going over any necessary orientation and information materials.
6:30pm: Depart for dinner at the Port Charlotte Hotel.
7:00pm: Dinner, drinks, music, a bonfire, and fireworks to celebrate Guy Fawkes Day!
Late Evening: We'll return from Port Charlotte. Folks are welcome to settle in and rest up before the week ahead, but there is a lovely bar just two blocks away for those interested in a nightcap.
Bruichladdich and Bunnahabhain
7am – 9:30am: At your leisure, enjoy a full breakfast provided by the Harbour Inn. They will have plenty of grab-and-go options, but please allow at least 20 – 30 minutes if you would like to order à la carte.
9:45am: Bus departs from the Harbour Inn for Bruichladdich Distillery
10:30am - 12pm: Bruichladdich tour and Warehouse tasting. After a brief stroll through the production facility, we will make our way with a seasoned guide into one of the warehouses to taste multiple whiskies straight out of the cask. They will be single cask whiskies and only available for tasting at the distillery itself!
12:30pm – 1:30pm : Enjoy lunch at Yans, a wonderful restaurant known for their magnificent fish and chips! If time allows, we can make a stop to admire an array of local crafts at the Islay Woolen Mill and Islay House Square before heading to Bunnhabhain Distillery.
2:00pm – 4:30pm: Bunnahabhain Warehouse Tasting Tour, tailored just for us! It will begin with an in-depth tour of the distillery itself and extraordinary explanation of how whisky is made. We'll finish up with a tutored tasting of three single casks within the distillery warehouse where you'll learn what makes Bunnhabhain whisky different from other malts. Guests will also have an opportunity to buy a self-filled bottle!
4:30pm – 6:00pm: We will have some down time between the tour and dinner to relax and/or explore. There are beautiful walks and multiple historical sites to enjoy on the NE side of the island.
6:15pm: Dinner at Ballygrant Inn.
Return to Harbour Inn and relax for the evening with a bottle of Bunnahabhain whisky before calling it a night!
Kilchoman and Caol Ila
7am – 8:30am: At your leisure, please enjoy breakfast provided by the Harbour Inn. Again, please allow at least 20 – 30 minutes if you would like to order à la carte.
8:45am: Bus will depart for Lagavulin Distillery.
9:30am – 12:30pm: Kilchoman Tour. If you haven't heard of this distillery, it'll be a wonderful surprise. Be sure to pack you're muck boots for this one because our first stop will be the farm. After getting an inside look at the fields of barley surrounding this quaint, farm distillery we'll take a tour through the production areas themselves where you'll see floor malting and bottling in action! To finish out this incredible experience, you'll have a chance to meet and drink with Kilchoman founder, Anthony Wills. He has quite the story so get ready to pick his brain!
12:30pm - 1:40pm: We'll enjoy lunch in the Kilchoman cafe before departing for Caol Ila
2:00pm – 3:30pm: At Caol Ila, get ready to shift gears. After spending all morning at Islay's smallest, you'll spend the afternoon at Islay's largest. It's amazing to compare these two as Caol Ila's annual production is nearly 50 times that of Kilchoman. Any Johnnie Walker lovers will thoroughly enjoy this tour and cask strength tasting!
3:30pm - 5:00pm: On our return to Bowmore, we'll stop along the way to visit the famous Islay Woolen Mill - home to the kilt makers for Hollywood's Braveheart and the Royale family. Should time allow, we will also stop at Islay House Square where folks can try some locally brewed ale and peruse some of Islay local craft smiths.
6:30pm: Dinner at the Harbour Inn.
Late Evening: The evening is yours to relax and unwind. For those interested in a few late night drams, we can take a stroll through the village and enjoy some drinks at the local pubs.
Jura and the Corryvreckan
6:30am – 8:00am: At your leisure, please enjoy breakfast provided by the Harbour Inn. Please allow at least 20 – 30 minutes if you would like to order à la carte.
8:15am: Bus departs for Feolin ferry to the Isle of Jura
10:00am: In depth tour with distillery manager, Rachel. She'll then sit down with us to sample four of Jura's rarer whiskies.
12:00pm: Lunch at the Jura Hotel
1:15pm: Depart for Corryvreckan. You may have had a whisky by this name, but the whirlpool itself will be an adventure. A boat will dock just beside our lunch spot and we'll take a boat tour around the stunning coast of the Isle of Jura on our way to the North end. Here lies the Corryvreckan, the world's second largest whirlpool! A site few have seen and a journey even fewer have taken by boat.
5:00pm: The boat will return us to Port Askaig on Islay where we'll be picked up by our driver and make the drive back to the Harbour Inn. We'll have an hour or two to unwind before dinner just up the street.
7:00pm: Dinner at Bowmore Hotel and Lucci's bar, a wonderful local hotspot filled to brim with Illeachs winding down from the day. We'll enjoy a hearty, family style meal at this father/son establishment and depending on the night, we may enjoy some local music, karaoke, or televised futbol.
Laphroaig and Ardbeg
7:30am – 9:00am: At your leisure, please enjoy breakfast provided by the Harbour Inn. Please allow at least 20 – 30 minutes if you would like to order à la carte.
9:15am: Bus departs for Laphroaig Distillery
10:00am - 12:00pm: Distillers Wares Tour at Laphroaig
12:30pm: Lunch at Ardbeg's Old Kiln Café
2:00pm: Ardbeg's ArdBIG tour and tasting.
4:00pm - 6:00pm: Hike to the American monument at the Mull of Oa. An absolutely stunning walk along the cliffs. On a clear day you'll spot Ireland in the distance and we'll undoubtedly run into a few herds of highland cattle as well. For those less interested in post-whisky stroll, you'd be welcome to spend the afternoon in the village of Port Ellen to relax and explore before dinner.
6:30pm: Dinner at the Islay Hotel. After a lovely meal, folks can either walk down to the local pub or return to Bowmore and settle in for the evening.
Bowmore and Lagavulin
Free Morning: We'll meet outside the Harbour Inn just before 11am to walk over to Bowmore Distillery together, but the morning is yours to relax, pack, take photos, or explore the village. At your leisure, please enjoy breakfast provided by the Harbour Inn. Please allow at least 20 – 30 minutes if you would like to order à la carte.
11:00am: Flavourwheel Masterclass at Bowmore Distillery.
1:00pm: Quick lunch at Taste in Bowmore. Bus will depart for Lagavulin at 1:30.
2:00pm: Lagavulins Sensory Tasting Experience
6:00pm: Final Dinner at the Harbour Inn.
6:30am – 8:00am: We will enjoy a final breakfast together before taking off for the airport and ferry port.
8:15am: Bus departs for 9:50am flight to Glasgow.
